Challenging White Supremacy (for white people) Drop In Study Group
First session – Tuesday, May 7 pm at the Glitterbox Theater
Bloomcraft Building, 460 Melwood Ave, 15213, which is accessible from bus routes 77 (Baum & Melwood stop), and the 54, 71A, 71C, and 82 (Centre & Melwood stop). Some parking in front of the building, and some street parking.
Are you looking for ways to challenge white supremacy but don’t know where to start?
How about with yourself!? Learn how to challenge your internalized white supremacy and more by engaging with readings and discussions in the WHATS UP?! drop-in summer session study group. People who benefit from white privilege of all levels of experience and knowledge welcome. Participants should read at least one of the readings listed on the website before attending a session. May 9th– White Supremacy/Privilege. Intersectionality and Calling In.
May 30th– Some History
June 6th– Structural and Institutional Racism
June 20th– White Identity, White Fragility, and Microaggressions
July 4th– Policing, Criminalization, and Mass Incarceration
July 25th– Community Development, Housing, Gentrification, and Displacement
Aug 8th– Indigenous Sovereignty, and Environmental Justice
Aug 29th– Solidarity in Peace and Action
Each Tuesday night study group begins at 7pm and is at the Glitterbox Theater at 460 Melwood Ave. Come for just one session or all eight! Bring your friends and your family. There is no cost, but a donation for the space rental is appreciated.
If you would like to enter the session with some extra mindfulness, join us for sitting meditation from 6:15 (sharp) until 6:45. No experience needed, instructions will be given!
