This is What’s Up?!’s 7th Racial Justice Muscle Building Event. They are virtual spaces that are predominately Pittsburgh and Western PA-centric but all are welcome. The main goal is to hold space, connect, and inspire people to push themselves further from wherever they are.
In the past we have had spaces to support people challenging racism at work, talking to family members, doing the internal de programming white supremacy work, prison abolition and reparations.
This month we will meet on Friday, September 17th from 6-8pm Eastern, and we will host a single session entitled Tools for Recovering From White Conditioning.
If you would like ASL interpretation, please request by registering for the event 48 hours in advance so we can make arrangements.
Tools for Recovering from White Conditioning
Recovery from white conditioning is a lifelong process. In this virtual meeting we offer a space to listen, share, and unpack the ways white supremacy has harmed our lives and the lives of everyone around us. Over the course of an hour and a half we will outline a pathway to recovery and reveal the rewards of doing this liberating work. We will also walk you through a personal audit of the behaviors, actions and patterns which hold us hostage to white supremacy’s warped conditioning. Using a 12-step recovery model, we will share our experience, strength and hope in an effort to deconstruct this conditioning and reclaim our full humanity. We welcome anyone who identifies as white or has been socially categorized as such. Come join us in a communal space of self-discovery!
